“She wants to do what? Why? Where? How? And for what purpose?” And then again, why?” It’s nice to know Kelli always had so much faith in Issa’s event. On last night’s episode of Insecure, Issa’s big block party was finally in full swing! – But not without a few hilarious hiccups.

Issa had her hands full with, broken equipment, high maintenance vendors and a vibe-killing performance from a terrible spoken word poet.

“There’s blood on my hands – If you start to see the difference in me, it’s a tragedy – Sista without voices – Sista’s got choices....oh and I’m selling purses in the back!”.

“Uh uh, get her ass down, today is not about oppression” Issa told her self-proclaimed “executive assistant”, Koya. “Copy that, that’s a ban on the Badu”.

Condola Finally pops-up after ghosting Issa for weeks. Apparently she, “just came to check in with these vendors”. She also indirectly admits, that she ghosted Issa because her and Lawrence broke up (which is very unprofessional and disappointing coming from Condola). She seems cold and unapologetic about leaving Issa hanging, but like Condola said, “it is what it is”.

Between Issa’s “throuple” collapsing, no black people turing out and her headlining artist (Vince Staples) completely M.I.A – Our girl was having a tough time living in the moment and enjoying the fruits of her hard labor.

Her general anxieties were stopping her from appreciating how far she’s come. Someone should’ve reminded her, that she was driving for Lyft and sleeping on Daniels couch a few months ago. We hate to admit it, but we’re happy that Nathan (the ghost of Issa’s past) showed up to remind her to “be in the moment” and be proud of herself. And who would of thought Molly would be proud of her too?

After seeing the turn out and the level of work Issa had been putting in, Molly was impressed with how great the block party was going. Andrew helped her realize how much pressure Issa had on her shoulders lately and Molly finally lightened up on Issa.

Issa and Molly had a beautiful moment of connection over hot wings (wings always repair friendships). They didn’t get to say much because Issa got pulled away after Vince finally showed up, but that was the first moment in a long time that Issa and Molly didn’t have their guns out and were equally open to talking to each other. Later on, Issa and Molly happily wobbled (danced) together, looking like the best friends we know them to be. Little did we know, that would be the last wobble of their friendship.

Long back-stabbing story short, Issa reached out to Nathan, so he could reach out to Andrew and get Vince Staples for her block party. In the previous episode Molly set clear (and petty) boundaries when she told Issa to leave Andrew out of her block party plans. After Andrew spilled the tea, Molly confronted Issa and things got ugly.

It was clear Issa knew she was wrong, when she started explaining herself by saying “Nathan reached out about the block party and I needed help”, which was a total lie. Issa reached out to Nathan first, there’s a big difference. Which proves one of Molly’s points that Issa “uses people”. But Molly is far from innocent, she hasn’t been supportive at all. “You were willing to let me fail – You knew how much this event meant to me – and you decided your new relationship was more important than doing me one little ass favor”. We couldn’t agree with Issa more. Molly regrets wobbling with her earlier because “the whole time you [Issa] were stabbing me in the back”. Issa finishes this verbal slugfest with the painful truth, “You are so miserable, if things don’t work out with Andrew, it’s not gon be because of me girl” and right before their argument escalated to physical blows, some random screams from the background “That b*tch got a gun!” and everyone scrambled, ending the block party.

In the wake of the dramatic end to Issa and Molly’s friendship (and the block party), it’s obvious both our girls are hurting and it feels unrepairable. Each episode of the season so far, we’ve watched their friendship crumble under heavy tensions and subliminal remarks. With five episodes left in the season, who knows if our favorite BFF’s are going to reconnect.

Side note: Among the drama, Kelli was HILARIOUS all throughout this episode. She was determined to convince her date Darnell (played by Amine) that she was from a place called “Popycock” in “South Central London just a biscuit’s toss and a phany away from Benny Hill”. Do we need any other explanation other than, “It's Kelli”? The dramatic performances combined with some of the funniest moments of the season so far, created a skillful balance that only the writers of Insecure are capable of.

So where do we go from here? According to Issa Rae, the next five episodes of the season will be “different” from the five we’ve watched so far and we’re excited to tune in next Sunday at 10pm to see for ourselves.

In the meantime, we leave you with these inspiration words from Thug Yoda; “Don’t let somebody else’s boises jeopardize yo baracter, your better than that my n*gga”.
