Lawrence had a full plate of insecurities, on this week’s Thanksgiving episode of Insecure – “Lowkey Thankful”

Two months before the big block party, the episode opens up with Lawrence talking in the bathroom mirror (like Issa) and practicing his interview responses for a new position at his IT company. In a later conversation with Chad (in Chad’s new Ranger Rover that he can’t afford), Lawrence mentions that his company will be downsizing and his blackness might save him from being cut but he definitely isn’t moving up like he planned. Chad “comforts” him with “well sh*t you black and bullet proof, what’s the problem my guy?”. His job insecurities get worse when one of Condola’s friend’s (who works at a better IT company) makes its known that Lawrence’s company is going through changes in front of everyone at Condola’s Friendsgiving. A Friendsgiving that Lawrence invited himself to.
Condola didn’t want to put any “pressure” on Lawrence by inviting him to her Friendsgiving, which is justified. They have only been dating for a few months, so it’s understandable that Condola wasn’t confident in bringing him around her close friends but Lawrence still abandoned his plans with his friend Mike and his “Hennessey turkey” and decides co-host with Condola anyway.

Friendsgiving was going great until a few red flags came up. Condola admits that she doesn’t want to get married again and then her hilarious friend “Drunk Nikki” basically tells Lawrence that he’s just Condola’s f-buddy. Immediately after that, the kitchen “sink-sink” Lawrence thought he fixed, broke again, soaking him and his tacky button down.
Between Lawrence’s job insecurities and his new insecurities with him and Condola's future, he has a lot of uncertainty and confusion in his life right now. But there’s one thing we (and Condola) know for sure, is that Lawrence and Issa still have love for each other.

“Well in Set It Off they all die, expect Jada” Lawrence and Issa where doing their witty flirting-but-not-technically-flirting-thing that they do. Issa bumped into Condola and Lawrence who were on a date so Issa runs out of the restaurant with her “for here” order, tray and all. Can you blame Issa? We avocadon’t... Sorry, we had to. Issa’s corny little puns have been deeply missed.

Issa and Molly’s grocery shopping trip turns into a verbal slugfest. Issa “advises” Molly not to invite Andrew to her parents’ house for thanksgiving because she might “pull a old Molly and scare his ass away”. Molly shoots back by downplaying Issa’s sticky situation with Condola and Lawrence as a “little throuple”. Issa takes that one to heart and hits her back with a “Bitch, you were just in throuple with Dro yesterday”. Molly finishes Issa, mortal-combat-style with “at least I was f*cking for free weed and toiletries”. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. They both finally acknowledge how “off” they have been lately and Issa suggest they talk later at Thanksgiving. Sounds like a plan.

In the meantime we finally get to see more of Issa’s family other than her brother Amal (who was actually being nice to her this episode). We LOVED seeing Issa’s mother being played by Wendy Raquel Robinson, who was helping her husband (Issa’s stepfather) into an ambulance after he “slipped on some loose gravy”.
Back at the Carters, Molly was still struggling with the fact that her father once cheated on her mother. She also gets some much needed motherly reassurance that she doesn’t have to hide Andrew from her family, “If he’s right for you he won’t think your too much, don’t overthink it”.
The episode wraps up with Issa canceling her “pie time” with Molly. ANOTHER important conversation, that could have prevented the foreshadowed breakdown of their relationship, has been pushed back. But in this case it seems more like a lack of wanting to have the conversation, rather than a scheduling issue. More so on Issa’s part. Molly went out of her way to bake the pie, Issa didn’t want to meet her half way.

For the sake of article length, there were so many things not discussed in this recap, Kelli and Trina’s thanksgiving, Amal finally talking about his love life, Issa expressing her frustration with Condola picking the fruits of Issa Labor and Lawrence "harmlessly" dm'ing Issa on her IG story. We all know, nothing good ever comes from an Ex's Dm. Make sure you go watch S4 E3 of Insecure so we can all tune in together next week on Sunday at 10pm!
