“Plan B was becoming my plan A”
Issa told Molly on their “self-care Sunday” hike, as she casually releases “TSA bae” back to the streets. This episode seemed like another win for Issa but a major loss in her friendship with Molly.
Rewinding to the beginning of the episode – Issa and Condola are still being haunted by the ghost of Lawrence as they tour a potential venue for the big block party. Issa (who seems to thrive in awkward situations) let it be known, that she wasn’t going to let “someone who puts mayonnaise on his French fries” ruin their beautiful budding relationship and of course – Condola felt the same way.

This is a great example of how black women are fully capable of talking their issues through and addressing them directly with one another, without it ending in cocktails being thrown around the room – which is the unfortunate/unrealistic outcome we see on TV all the time. Condola and Issa’s work relationship is very reminiscent of Issa's work relationship with her former partner Rita from “We Got Y’all”. Except in this case, Issa likes Condola as a person and doesn’t have to tolerate her, she genuinely enjoys her.
Guess who’s finally feeling a little insecure himself? Lawrence. “I can’t seem sensitive to Condola and I can’t seem petty to Issa, what the hell am I supposed to do?”. With the help of Derek and Chad (who is the Kelli of the group), Lawrence struggles to accept the fact that his ex and his new girlfriend are becoming real friends and they are using him as a joke to break the ice.
Surprisingly, Lawrence visits Issa to talk about things and several interesting details come from this short interaction:
1. Lawrence is taking Condola seriously.
2. Issa “fully” supports them?
3. Their meeting is being kept a secret from Condola.
4. Lawrence’s real name is Martin?
It’s nice to know that #LawrenceHive is built on a lie. Anyway, we are happy to see Issa and Lawrence together again – they are arriving at a normal dynamic that acknowledges the fact that they still deeply care about each other but they are also moving on with their lives.

It was so great to see Kelli, Tiffany, Molly and Issa together again (assumingly at Tiffany’s house). Please watch the episode to find out why Kelli is looking for her next man at the circus. “Your ideas are trash Kelli”.
Molly tries to catch up with Issa, but it doesn’t go as planned. It turns from a Issa-Molly convo into a Tiffany-Molly-Kelli-Issa convo that ends with Molly “putting that [kitty] on pause” to make “Asian bae” (Andrew) open up to her more.

Is Molly wrong for wanting Andrew to open up more? Andrew and Molly’s chill dinner date went left after Molly presses him to open up more, leading him to storm out and go to the Summer Walker concert alone. Was it the gumbo? I mean it was a little salty but damn.
We understand Molly’s confusion. Andrew was thirsty for some Molly in season 3 and even pushes Molly to share more but also shuts her out at the same time – its high-key frustrating. What’s wrong with wanting to get what you give? Nothing at all. Molly later learns that, everyone just gives at their own pace.

Back to self-care Sunday, Issa hears about what happen with Andrew and blames it on Molly, “always finding a problem” (the same thing Andrew said to her). “Sometimes I feel like, do you even wanna be happy?”. Ouch. Then, Andrew calls Molly in the middle of their hike to tell her that it wasn’t her fault. He has his own sharing issues, reassuring Molly that there’s nothing wrong with her and apologizing.
After Issa is done fighting bugs in the distance, she asked Molly who she was on the phone with and for the first time we see Molly not wanting to share personal information with Issa – by saying her convo with Andrew was a “work thing”. The chasm in their friendship opens a little bit wider. Has Issa become someone Molly feels like she can’t share with anymore? Creator and Star, Issa Rae took to twitter to tell fans that next week’s episode is “one of her favorites”. Another reason why, we will all be tuned into HBO next Sunday at 10pm.
