There are always varying reactions, whenever singer Daniel Delay and producer Nineteen85, team up:

  • We get deep in our conflicting feelings

  • We start summer flings

  • We text our toxic ex

  • We have toxic sex

  • Apologize

  • Regret

  • Repeat

Regardless of your individual reaction – we all love and appreciate our favorite Toronto-native R&B duo, dvsn.

On April 17th, dvsn released their third studio album, A Muse In Her Feelings. Since their 2016 debut album, Sept. 5, entered the top 20 of Billboards Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, moody R&B fans have embraced dvsn with open ears.

A Muse In Her Feelings sounds like one 56-minute love song, not because every song sounds the same (which is not true) but because it’s a cohesive body of sound that is best experienced in order from Track 1 to Track 16. Beautiful transitions are the key to a classic album. Transitions from

“For Us” to “...Again” and “Outlandish” to

“Keep it Going” are production choices that make this album our favorite dvsn project so far.

Speaking of “Keep it Going”, dvsn surprised us on this album by combining their normal vibey/moody sound with club music.

In a January interview with Billboard, Daniel Daley explained, “The whole idea behind dvsn is, we’re going to give you the unexpected,” says Daley. “We are going to go against the grain — be divided from the bunch and separated from the past. The moment you think we’re going to go left, we’re going to do a hard right”

A very apparent theme throughout this body of work.

This album also has humble notes of West Indian influences as well, with features from, Buju Banton and Popcaan. Typically when artist dabble in West Indian influences, it can sound unnatural/misplaced but dvsn’s smooth production makes it work.

The album also has mainstream collaborators such as, Summer Walker, Future and TY Dolla $ign – another unusual choice by dvsn, we have known them to barely have any features but still – dvsn makes it work. The features don’t sound like they were selected for the sake of gaining mainstream success but because each selected artist, perfectly matches the tone of the love song at the time.

A Muse in Her Feelings is not meant for critical analysis. It’s a flowing sea of emotions to get lost in. There are no stand-out radio records on his album. Dsvn has given us something much better than that. A Muse in Her Feelings is a beautiful body of art in its entirety.
